Thanks to an anonymous tipster, I came across this peculiar promotional drive undertaken by software publisher SoftMaker. SoftMaker, as you might be aware, is known for it's office product - the SoftMaker Office which is currently at the 2010 edition. About two days ago, SoftMaker announced a new project called Load And Help and launched a site. Under this project, SoftMaker will donate € 0.10 to a charity organization Betterplace.org for every successful download of SoftMaker Office 2008.
The marketing gimmick seems to be working.
The first days on loadandhelp.com were overwhelming. Over 3000 Downloads of SoftMaker Office 2008 within the first 7 hours means a donation amount of 300 €. Today on Tuesday the downloads broke the 13.000 margin means, a donation amount of 1.300 €.
It must be mentioned that SoftMaker Office 2008 is a commercial product which is priced around $80. They are giving away this product for free and at the same time donating to charity. They only thing they are asking you is to download.
